To Resolve or Not to Resolve? That Is the Question

The gifts are opened, the leftover stuffing is gone, and there’s just one part of the holidays left to tackle: making, keeping—and, for some of us, breaking—New Year’s resolutions. Whether you set a new goal each January or pursue a perennial objective, do you bother to make this yearly pledge? Do you usually make good on your promise, or does your resolve invariably falter by spring? If you’re making a resolution this year, what is it? (And for those of you who always follow through on your plans, please tell us your secret!)

I am not big on resolutions because I've accepted that I am a work in progress ... This after many (many!) broken January promises to myself. However, I am going to try to not drink alcohol for the next 30 days. Why? A simple way to give up a few hundred calories a day (several hundred if you count the cheese and crackers that go with each glass of wine), an attempt to be more productive with my evenings (Pinot Gris and Real Housewives have been inseparable), and, to be honest, just to be sure I can. Will keep you posted on my progress here and @besimplegirl.

My son-in-law has decided to show more resolve in his resolutions. I think that's quite resolute of him. My own resolution is to trust and allow in my one wild and precious life. Happy New Year!

Mine is losing that stubborn 10 pounds and getting more social, including giving a romantic relationship a try. Finally, no procrastination either. I've always come out well in the semesters, but it puts too much stress on me. I can't go on with it anymore.

I don't make resolutions- I simple keep telling myself that I will get there. Eventually I do. I have to work at at- however I do eventually meet my goal..

Resolutions are essentially a way of making a pact with oneself. I like to reflect about what sort of goals need to be established in my life and then ask myself why each goal is being set. If the right intention is behind a decision, then keeping a promise to myself or someone else becomes much clearer & easier to maintain. My resolutions are never limited to only being derived out of the New Years celebrations, because I have found that they are a constant and evolving process. Throughout the year, it is important for me to identify problems and concerns, which I can then actively pursue in resolving in a proactive manner. I have found that understanding and bettering myself is most certainly an ever evolving process, but as I set goals for myself, I know that by achieving them, I am first and foremost helping myself, which consequently then affects everyone around me. I believe that the mission of life is to move towards being a better person, a worthy goal, a constant resolution.

I luv making resolutions! They get me headed in the right direction, whether or not I stick to all of them... The more I make the more positive-minded/centered I become... This year: 1. Stay sober. 2. Spend more quality time with my 8 yr. old son. 3. Learn to meditate, finally. 4. Write more poetry. 5. Keep up with my online writing job. 6. Take all my meds. 7. Be positive no matter what. 8. Do my Daily Readings 9. Journal... still thinking of more!!!

I used to make resolutions. After 5 days into a new year, I would horribly fail. So instead, my only resolution I ever make to myself, is to not make a resolution. I have kept up on that one pretty good. I do review, some of the negative things of the following year, and I do try not to repeat them. So far, so good. :) Happy New year all!
