The Checklist

“Wash the clothes ... clean the room ... tame the wardrobe monster that has been mocking me for the last few weeks…” These were the thoughts running through my head as I sat in the washroom trying to read a book. I usually liked to read a book while doing my morning routine of unloading.

But I realized I was so busy trying to hurry up and finish reading so that i could get to my “Checklist” that I really was not enjoying the book but simply trying to tick the first thing on my “Checklist”: read book in the washroom!

I thought of the way my weekend usually went—rushing through one activity after another, not really enjoying anything with the sole aim of ticking everything on my “Checklist.” I was a woman on a mission!

Sometimes you can get so caught up in doing the day-to-day “stuff” that you are not really enjoying what each day has to offer or “living in the moment.” Most part of life is the mundane things like cleaning, washing, cooking … they are never going to go away. But it is so important that we just don’t get lost in doing these things or seeing them as “work” but instead start enjoying them. You will surprised how much fun washing a sink full of dirty dishes can get if you decide to.

Maybe it was OK after all to have stuff pending on my “Checklist.” Maybe I was not a bad wife or homemaker even if few things were not done. Maybe enjoying life was so much more important.

It was then I committed to start enjoying my “Checklist” and do everything as unto the “Lord.”
