Forbes just released its 100 Most Powerful Women list for 2007. On the top was Condoleezza Rice with Melissa Gates coming in at number ten. Nestled in between (next to Oprah, of course) were only chief executives and heads of state. This made me wonder—is a powerful woman noted only for the size of her 401k? Or is it the integrity that lies deep within her heart? In your opinion, what qualities does a “powerful” woman have?
What Makes a Woman Powerful?

Confidence is what give a woman power, confidence that's built on a foundation of trust and belief in herself. When a woman feels confident, when her self-esteem is healthy, she's able to see past herself, and is able to focus on issues and on others.

POWER is a word which can be interpreted in many ways. You are powerful when you have influence over someone or something. Power is also when you have influence on your own life and others life. A women is powerful when she can influence her own self and others in a positive way and when others acknowledge and admire her achievement.

A woman has power simply from her presence. She can enter a room wearing the perfect dress, dazzle a man with the look in her eyes, entertain us with her stimulating conversation. But above all else, her mind is far more complex than any man can concept. This is why men don't like to talk, because we're afraid you'll realize how stupid we really are. More than anything, a woman gets here power from her ability to have complete control over men.
A powerful woman is one who embraces forgiveness and moves serenely - taking in the people, events, and decisions surrounding her....She rarely makes judgments, yet she garners power by being sought out by those who admire her quiet grace.
Power comes from connecting to Source, Light, God (whatever you prefer to call it). Once you move into that realm you become one with that power. As you then feel this empowerment your understanding of self expands outward and is felt by others. You have now become all that you truly are which is wise, kind and empathic. All fear is gone. All doubt dissapates. You are now a woman of substance and you didn't have to earn a degree or sell a product or inherrit fame or fortune.
As I think about this question, I believe a powerful woman is one who acknowledges that she is not the ultimate source of her power and strength. She is a woman of resource. One who may not know all the answers, but knows how to get them. A powerful woman is one who is able to embrace the seasons of change in her life, learning and growing with time. I believe a powerful woman is one who is able to forgive, herself and others, and who is able to give without giving up her soul. A powerful woman isn't boastful and self-proclaiming because her life (to those who truly know her) speaks volumes for itself. People are inspired by her, moved by her, desire to do better because of her, and have confidence in her. But most of all, she--through her Creator--has confidence in herself.

I personally feel that a woman is born with a deep strength that can not be given or taken it is only then that a woman learns to use it when she needs to.

I think a lot of the answers are very PC but not necessarily true. We'd like power to be the wisdom to embrace our inner whatever but power for women is the same as power for men...money, influence, charisma, etc. Having said all that, I think it is even more important to have self-knowledge and embrace our inner power and believe we are worthy and all the other things you guys said, but power is power.
