I do not consider myself an exercise junkie. I do exercise regularly, however. I find that three to five times a week of exercise helps me unwind and distress from the pressure of the week. I have found meditation to be helpful and relaxing. My meditation routine is basically listening to soft music, or I have a book of soothing meditations and quotes I read and concentrate on before I go to sleep. I set the timer on my stereo and I’m asleep before the music stops, so I must be doing something right. I’m at least relaxed. I never realized how simple the concept of meditation was until I found something that worked for me.
I think it’s unhealthy to internalize feelings and emotions. It’s important to express yourself and not let troubles bring you down. I tell my husband what’s bothering me and also confide in close family and friends. It gives me a different perspective to hear their insight and also gives me the opportunity to vent. I find journaling and expressing my feelings in writing is a positive and insightful way to deal with what’s happening in my life and in the moment.
One of my cousins once told me to always find a positive and creative outlet for stress in my life. She always felt the body was affected by stress and it was important to keep active spiritually, as well as physically. Those words of wisdom have stayed with me for many years.
I have been told I have a kind and loving heart, but I also want a healthy and strong heart to live a full and complete life, so that’s why I exercise and find creative ways to soothe my body and mind.
