For some people, being gay is totally out of the question. Either a person is extremely closed to the idea of homosexuality or perhaps the opposite—they seem to be the most queer person on earth. But for some people, their sexuality is quite a mystery to them. They seem to get attracted to another person of the same sex even though (in some cases) they’re already in a heterosexual relationship.
I’m completely open to being gay. As a matter of fact, I wouldn’t be surprised that if one day I actually turn out to be a full bred, mullet-wearing lesbian. (The mullet thing is a hyperbole, goddamit! No mullets for me forever!).
I have been surrounded by women almost all my life. I wasn’t really exposed to any men and I really didn’t exactly have a man to lean on to all my life. It turns out, all men in my world are evil. I think the fear of getting hurt and abandoned again by a man is what pushes me to go to the dyke side. My added sense of security of being with women is also a factor for me to go to the dyke side.
In my opinion (as a female), it’s easier to love a person of the same sex. You wouldn’t have to second-guess what your partner needs, you’d understand more what your partner feels, and you wouldn’t have to figure out what your partner WANTS.
Being gay is also very convenient in other ways! You can borrow the stuff your partner wears, help your partner pick out stuff at the mall, share lipstick, and of course, be quick aid when the cramps start to kick in (Tampons. wink, wink!) Blah, blah, blah ...
I figure, if I’m going to live my life, I’m going to live it to the fullest. I’m going to try all the options I have and stick to the one I like best. Sticking to one side is way too safe and boring, and for some people, a safe and boring way of living is just fine. But I challenge everyone to be gay for a part in their life and see what fun (or misery) that can bring to you.
(By the way, I’m still not gay.)
