If I Had to Do It Over Again

If I had to do it all over again, would I? I probably would, despite the bumps along the way. My mom once said in order to get from Point A to Point C, you cannot bypass Point B. Yes, I wish I had listened and done lots of things differently, especially when I was younger, but that wasn’t part of the plan.

In the cosmic scheme of it all, my crazy route in life led me to my husband, the love of my life. I also made some very good friends along the way. Having had some bumps and bruises in my travels, I certainly learned what not to do in life and figured out what I did want in life, not only in my relationships, but as a human being. I wanted to be whole and well and not just another broken person in a sea of other broken people.

I learned compassion for others. I learned to be giving and kind. I learned to get to know people and also that it’s never acceptable to compromise who I am for anyone. True love is about loving someone for who they are, not who you would like them to be. I have said numerous times in my life that no one person is perfect, but most certainly there are people who are perfect for one another.

I learned to hear music in a different light, stop and smell the roses more often, savor the flavor of the delicious things in life. I learned to appreciate the works of great writers and the brilliance of scientists and doctors who led unconventionally paths to make this life a better place for us all.

There have been times in my life when the glass felt half empty, but loving family and friends overflowed my glass with such generosity and kindness. Where I started became so far removed from where I ended up.

Yes, I am a work in progress and I have made so many mistakes, but every day is a new day and we can always change and become better people. Not only can we make our own lives better, we can help others. I feel such a sense of gratitude. I will never forget those who always believed in me and helped me get to a better place in life.

Wow! I could have authored this; meaning my path has been the same. As rough as the road has been, I would never go back, "If I had to do it over again." Poor choices, actions, relationships, etc. left me bruised but enlightened. I have found who I am, what I want out of life, and who to share it with. I would take all the pain and upset over and over again, as long as it led me exactly where I am right now and, more importantly, to my husband who is my soul mate, best friend, lover, and rock.
It feels good to write.
