After a tense Thanksgiving and even tenser Christmas, I found myself on edge about my sister-in-law’s upcoming wedding. It would mean bringing together the group of people who were not getting along during the holidays. Out of town relatives would be staying with various family members, the weather possibly would not be cooperative, among all the other potential problems. I was grateful the “fun” and enjoyable relatives were staying with us. Despite the fact that we were crowded, there was a sense of family and camaraderie that brought us all together.
The day of the wedding, the bride was beautiful, the groom was striking, and everything seemed to go well. There were some tense moments, but fortunately, it was not from our family. The sense of community was overwhelming. People were assembling a large tent, decorating, the talented cake decorating friend did the cake as a gift, the bride and groom’s multi-talented theatre group friends provided music, lights and elaborate sets. The wedding was held at the bride and groom’s home and what once was a large storage garage was transformed into a magical setting for a beautiful reception. It was a dream wedding in every sense.
The day before the wedding, the sky had literally opened up with rain, but the day of the wedding was sunny and clear. My husband and I have always had a close and loving relationship, but that particular night the love and closeness we shared seemed that much stronger. We were thrilled to welcome our brother-in-law and his family into our circle. We laughed, we cried tears of joy, and were grateful everything went so well.
At the end of an incredible evening, I told everyone we should have a “wedding” every month. They all understood. It was also a reminder to me to keep a little magic in our lives and make the most of these wonderful moments.
