Most of the time even happily single people find the holiday season to be agonizing. The television shows depict happy couples attending Christmas parties, kissing under the mistletoe or sharing time with family and friends. Let’s not forget New Year’s Eve and the romantic kiss between lovers at the stroke of midnight. The happiest of singles can feel a little gloomy, even if it is just momentarily. Now, what happens when someone experiences a break up around the holiday season? Your emotions are already on high alert; crying at the drop of a dime, lashing out at others, making rash decisions or, spending money you don’t have. So, here are ten useful tips for surviving a break-up around the holiday season:
- Increase your social support ( socialize with other single friends)
- Talk to a close friend or family member
- Focus on giving back ( volunteer for a non-profit organization)
- Remove any reminders of the relationship from your home
- Do something special for yourself.
- Don’t obsess about your relationship status
- Don’t over use alcohol or drugs to cover up your feelings
- Don’t do the blame game. Try to avoid the source of your frustrations.
- Try to avoid rebound sex.
- Un-friend them on Facebook; delete text messages and pictures from your mobile device.
Good luck!
