I recently went to get my eyebrows threaded at the mall and there I found a man sitting in the chair getting his eyebrows done. I was a bit taken aback; I have never seen a man get it done. I have lived in New York City and consider myself open-minded, but in that moment the conservative grandma in me could not stop staring.
After she finished his eyebrows, I noticed that they didn’t look like they had been done. They looked very natural and masculine. I was impressed.
Once it was my turn, I allowed my curiosity to get the best of me and I asked my threader if she has many male clients. She advised, “Yes, you would be surprised. And, I know if we were not situated in a kiosk in the open mall there would be more. Plus, I am very gentle and don’t thread to hard.”
Her response was accurate. She doesn’t hurt you when she threads like most threaders or people who use wax. And, I am always embarrassed when I ask her to thread the hair that grows on my chin. But, it has to get done. And, she’s the best. So, I allow mall passers-by to know of my chin hair secret.
Would I date a man who gets his eyebrows done? I’m not sure. I am sure half of the men in Hollywood get it done, but that’s different. They are super stars and get paid to be beautiful. I am sure Brad Pitt gets his done and I would marry him any day of the week.
Plus, I get mine done. Am I being a hypocrite? I once dated a man who shaved his chest and underarm hair and I didn’t mind. I always love a well manicured man, but getting his eyebrows done may be too much for me.
But, my feelings have made me question my open mindedness. I know men have unwanted hair. Some guys have out of control eyebrows and unibrows alike that need removal. Are they going to start threading eyebrows in barber shops?
