Ashley has done a wonderful job of giving pointers to parents from a teacher's point of view. As a former teacher, I am glad she pointed out that there are many things that can influence a child's classroom behaviors and performance, and all possibilities should be investigated before assuming a learning disability. Another suggestion: read to your child yourself. Bedtime story time is great bonding time and can instill a love of reading. Perhaps Mom or Dad can take turns with the child, alternating paragraphs or pages.

What a useful article! The suggestions by the author are so practical. I plan on keeping this on hand as a resource for parents of struggling students in my class.

Ashley's article was so encouraging to a parent with a seemingly shut down and intimidated child. Her step by step and realistic approach is kind, practical and do-able.
It feels good to write.
