India

In many parts of India, especially the South, diners enjoy idlis, small steamed cakes made of rice and lentils, for breakfast. They eat these with sambar, which is a spicy vegetable soup. In other parts of India, people enjoy akoori, eggs scrambled with spices and dosas, crispy crepes, wrapped in various savory, spicy dishes.

Well, Fuul Medammes is by far the most typical breakfast item in Egypt . But there are many ways to prepare it. Corn seed or sunflower oil is more common than olive oil , but it can be also be drenched in butter with garlic, or tehina sauce, or tomoato garlic sauce. Another very common dish at breakfast is cheese (we call it "white cheese"), it can be either quite salty or salt-free. Also, we you come to Egypt, you have to savor Ta'meyah-Fuul's sister. It's a little fired patties made from beans and an assortment of leafy greens and onion.

Turkish breakfasts were my favorite when I was a kid. My mom used to make them on Saturday mornings. Sometimes it was better than pancakes or waffles!
When I stayed at a hostel in southern Turkey, breakfast included cucumber and tomato slices, hard-boiled eggs, and bread. In Istanbul, the popular breakfast on the go was either a mini grilled cheese sandwich or egg and cheese casserole wrapped in a napkin. But regardless of what you ate (or even what time of day it was), hot tea was always part of the meal!
