Delve into D.C.

As fall comes to an end and winter sneaks its icy breath into the air, it is a great time to visit our nations capital. People always ask us why would you want to visit D.C. in the fall or winter? The answer is simple  ... less crowds and less money! Any time I can see the same attractions with a fraction of the people and stay in a posh hotel at a discount ... count me in! Here are some fun things to do if you find yourself in DC soon.

The Newseum
Extra  ... Extra  ... read all about it! Here at the Newseum, you will find plenty of things to write home about. The best exhibits ... sections of the Berlin Wall, Pulitzer Prize Photograph Gallery (beware - many of the photos are extremely heartbreaking), World News Gallery, Evolution of Electronic News Gathering and the First Amendment Gallery. Quick  ... name the Five Amendments! Ok  ... a hint  ... one is Freedom of Petition.

The Supreme Court
Have you ever wanted to see our Justices in action? It is actually a lot more fascinating then it sounds. The Supreme Court begins its new term this month so don’t miss out. It is a great learning experience and it is FREE! Typically sessions are Monday/Wednesday/Friday beginning at 9:30am. The sessions last about two hours. Seating is first come first serve, so arrive early to get your place in line. We recommend calling 202-479-3211 to ensure the Court has scheduled a session on the day you want to attend.

The Library of Congress
Next door to the Supreme Court is The Library of Congress, the nation’s oldest federal cultural institution. It also has a phenomenal gift shop that sells unusual books that make the perfect gift!

Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial
The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial is going to be built on a four-acre site across from the Jefferson Memorial. It will be the first one to be built since the WWII Memorial in 2004.

This memorial is, “To commemorate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by leading a collaborative funding, design, and construction process in the creation of a memorial to honor his national and international contributions to world peace through non-violent social change.”

We look forward to the completion of this Memorial and to the day when everyone is truly equal.
