I just read that Paris Hilton has a quotation in the newest edition of the Oxford Book of Quotations. Here it is, now think hard, because this is really deep: “Dress cute wherever you go; life is too short to blend in.” Hmmm. I’ll have to rework my outfit to take my son to swim lessons and acting classes. And, oh, what will I wear to the store? I’m in a panic. I no longer know how to “dress cute.” You get to a certain age and “dressing cute” means “you’re fifty and you wear clothes that only a twenty year old should wear.” My cute days are way behind me.
And what happened to the Paris Hilton, who said, after her, what, twenty minutes in jail, said, “Jail has changed me. I want to do something to help these poor women.” (That may not be her actual quote; I don’t keep up on Paris’ incredibly deep and meaningful quotes.) What happened to the chastened Paris, who had to (gasp!) remove her hair extensions for jail?
What happened was as soon as she was released, she went back to her shallow, celebrity for doing nothing, life. Just what has she contributed to the world? How to dress your Chihuahua to match your Versace outfit? It would have been nice if she had helped those “poor women” in jail. Maybe start a foundation that helps get women in jail back on their feet when they’re released. Donate some of her clothes so they can go to job interviews properly dressed. Do makeovers for them. I’m sure Paris has enough makeup for a whole jail full of women. If I were those women, I’d be knocking on Paris’ door (or gate) and demanding she help them. I’d write letters to the press, saying how Paris never followed through on her thought process. Of course, with the alcohol and drugs, I don’t think Paris ever followed through on a thought process, not even until the end of the party she’s paid to attend. Yes, folks, there are people out there who actually pay Paris Hilton to come to a party, or opening of a restaurant or bar. They figure wherever Paris goes, crowds are sure to follow.
What has happened in this world when nobody heirs to fortunes make more money a year than a nurse? I’d like to see Paris empty a bedpan or hold a bucket while a patient barfs blood.
