I am finally going to publish my apple crumble recipe. It’s a twist on an British family favorite and I came up with the idea after making baked apples. My mum used to always make baked apples on fireworks night.
So, you need ...
200g plain flour
100g butter
100g sugar
Tablespoon dark brown sugar
I often add a tablespoon or two of chopped or flaked almonds, or a teaspoon of cinnamon or the zest of half a lemon.
These are estimates of measurements as I never measure what I am putting into this as tend to guesstimate things!
You then need three large cooking apples and you need to remove the core. If you do this correctly you should have a hole all the way through the apple about 1cm in diameter.
Now you need to stuff the crumble mix in the hole as tightly as you can.
Once you have done this then pile some more crumble mix on top in a mound and drizzle with melted butter.
Bake in the oven at approx 190 degrees centigrade until the apple starts to soufflé and the crumble is golden brown!
You should end up the crumble in the middle having a cake like texture and the crumble piled on the top all crunchy!
