Whether you have $500, $15,000, or $50,000 to spend, you should be looking for the most bang for your buck when it comes to planning your remodel. For the purpose of this article, we’ll be focusing primarily on the $500 to $15,000 budgets, as those are the most common budget ranges.
So, say you have $500 to spend. Clearly, every penny counts and there’s no room for waste. It’s time to pull on your work clothes and get dirty, as this is a DIY-level budget. In your mind, think about the average kitchen. Not too big, not too small–it has older cabinets, counters, and appliances. What will $500 do for you? Well, it will buy paint and supplies to completely repaint the walls and trim. That one project will freshen and clean your entire space–all for less than $100. Do you have a wood floor? For another $100, you might consider renting a sander and refinishing or painting the floors.
Or, if you have tile, replacing the grout will freshen the floor up as well. Those two projects will have renewed upwards of 75 percent of the surface areas of your kitchen. It can be a lot of work, no doubt. But, the end result can be very dramatic! With a remaining balance of around $300, what else can be done? Consider switching out the bling of the kitchen: faucets and cabinet knobs. There are so many gorgeous products on the market at many different price points. A gleaming new faucet will spruce up the sink area immediately. There are many options available that are both well-priced and attractive.
