Money, Health, Environment – Save Three in One Go

We’re always interested in saving money, whether or not the economy is bad. No matter what, having extra money for extra things helps us. But we don’t want our (and our children’s) health to suffer, and we can feel a bit guilty for not buying organic because it’s too expensive. Here are some ways you can get all three in one punch!

1. Apple cider vinegar, baking soda, salt, hydrogen peroxide, and lemon juice.
Well, you can go shampoo-less by starting to wash your hair with the vinegar, and take care of oil by using the baking soda sometimes. You can give yourself highlights by putting some lemon juice in your hair and going outside.

You don’t need toothpaste if you make a mixture of baking soda and salt, put a drop of hydrogen peroxide on your brush, and spoon it on (you can also add bentonite clay and dried ground peppermint if you like). And you can use vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice to clean.

Shampoo, toothpaste, and cleaning products are expensive, and they contain many toxins which are bad for the environment and for your health. So you can save yourself that, and the hassle of constantly having to go to the store. You can buy these things in bulk (5-gallon jug of vinegar, huge boxes of baking soda) and split it up however you like.

2. Eating organ meats and bones.
Liver, especially, is my favorite. So, food can be expensive too, which means that you might be cutting down on things and buying the cheap stuff. But that cheap stuff might not be very healthy. You can obtain liver (or other things) and bones from the butcher for quite cheap. I believe I once bought 1 pound of chicken liver for a dollar. That kept me fed for awhile. You use the bones to make bone broth, and liver you can cook whatever your favorite way is. These foods are very nutrient dense and pretty cheap, so it is good for your wallet and your health. As for the environment, consider buying these products from a local farmer who’s taken good care of his animals. Because the products are cheaper, it’s easier to get organic or pastured without spending too much.

3. Cloth diapers and pads.
I actually use a menstrual cup, which I bought last year. You can buy one of these, too, if you’re so inclined (can find it for $20 if you look online). But if you’d rather, cloth pads are good, too. You can sew it up yourself if you’re handy, or buy them. They are a little bit of an investment, but overall you’re saving money (even within a year). Same with cloth diapers, and you can buy some really fancy things. It’s not just a towel with a safety pin!

Good for the environment, obviously, because you’re not throwing away these things every time. Good for your health, as those pads and diapers contain some scary chemicals and things. And good for your money, as you don’t have to keep buying it for the rest of your life. Once you get it, you’re set for life. And once your baby is out of diapers, you can even resell your cloth diapers, and lose practically no money at all.

So there you are, three ways to get three. There are of course other things you can do (cold showers anyone?) because a lot of these things go hand in hand. Enjoy yourself and feel good!
