Talking Books with General Literature Novelist L.G. Bradshaw

We’re talking today to L.G. Bradshaw about his latest novel, Dot to Dot.

Q. Thank you for this interview, L.G. Can we begin by having you tell us a little about your book?

Hi, and thanks! Dot to Dot is basically the equivalent of a literary relay race, jumping from character to character, story to story like wildfire. There is nothing predictable about it. One minute you might be reading about a priest and what’s up with his life, and the next you’re caught up in the demented world of a necrophiliac serial killer. It’s a rollercoaster ride, and it will leave you begging for more.

Q. Did you outline before you wrote your book or did you just go with the flow?

No, I didn’t outline. I never do. I just go where the story and characters take me. I prefer it that way.

Q.
Who was your favorite character in Dot to Dot and why?

So many great characters. It’s hard to choose just one. I guess if I had to pick one, I’d say ten year old Tony Sanchez who comes up with a clever way to deal with his mother’s homicidal boyfriend. You’ll never look at a ten-year-old boy the same after meeting young Tony!

Q.
Who was your least favorite character?

That’s one I can’t pick. I love them all, even Crazy Chester the serial killer.

Q.
Can you tell us about the setting and why you chose it?

The setting for Dot to Dot is literally everywhere. Each character comes from a different location and background. Just as the reader never really knows what’s coming next, they also never know where the adventure is going to take them: New York, Las Vegas, Tampa, Seattle. The entire breadth and width of the U.S. is my canvas in Dot to Dot.

Q.
What was the hardest part to write?

Frankly, none of it. The characters all came together so seamlessly. It was the most fun I’ve ever had writing. Most of the time, I didn’t even know what was coming next.

Q.
What was the inspiration behind the story? Where were you when you came up with the idea?
