I'd liked it
I think I may be the first person to have purchased Mistress of the Revolution, which has as March 12th release date. On Friday evening of last week I went into the beloved and now tragically to be closed Dutton's Brentwood in Los Angeles, and the first thing my eye was drawn to was a lone copy of Mistress of the Revolution on the shelf! The clerk had no idea how it got there and it was not in the computer as stocked inventory, but he was happy to sell it nevertheless. First of all the book is physically beautiful! I had no idea that Fragonard continued on the inside jacket. Then the author begins with the haunting Jouffroy quotation: "It is beautiful to meet someone. It can happen anywhere in the world. Anytime. But the strangest thing is that one does not only meet the living, and that meeting a dead person can change your life." The novel – written as memoir – is wonderful and consuming. I have rarely experienced characters so alive. This one is worth it.
