Talking Poetry: Interview with Poet Laura Grossman

I don’t know about you, but I find writing poetry difficult. In fact, it is so difficult, I have to be depressed to write it. Author Laura Grossman is one poet who luckily doesn’t have that problem. Her book, The Sighing of the Winter Trees, is filled to the brim with poetry to delight anyone.

We interviewed Laura to find out what it is about poetry that sets her imagination on fire.

Q: Thank you for this interview, Laura. How long have you been writing poetry?
A: I’ve been writing poetry ever since I graduated from Lehman College for over ten years ago.

Q: How did you come up with such a beautiful title?
A: I love winter! And I wanted to give winter special meaning as a time for holiday warmth and romance.

Q: What do you do for inspiration? Do you have a special place you go for inspiration?
A: Meeting new people is inspirational for me. I do have a special place I go for inspiration, which is the mall where I like to sip tea and chat with a good friend.

Q: Do you ever have writer’s block or do the poems just flow with ease?
A: Usually the poems flow with ease.

Q: What do you think is easier—writing poems or writing a novel, and why?
A: Writing poems is much easier than writing a novel because writing a novel takes more time to develop. You have to develop characters, plot, and resolution.

Q: Have you ever read your poetry in public?
A: Yes, many times I’ve read my poetry in public and it was quite enjoyable.

Q: What’s next for you, Laura?
A: I envision myself writing for TV or another book—a novel.

Q: Thank you so much for this interview. Can you tell us where we can pick up a copy of The Sighing of the Winter Trees?
A: You can pick up a copy of my book, The Sighing of the Winter Trees, through PublishAmerica.
