Joining us today is Bernadine Feagins, author of Hakim & Terrance Shadow Mystery. We’ll talk to her about this book and what is up next in her writing world.
CM: Welcome Bernadine. Can you tell us a little about your book?
BF: Hakim and Terrance Shadow Mystery is a children’s book about a boy named Hakim, his faithful dog, Shadow, and his best friend, Terrance. Shadow disappears one day and with the help of Terrance, Hakim’s family and people from the neighborhood, Hakim and Shadow are reunited. The book depicts friendship, hope and devotion to a dog.
CM: Where did you find the inspiration for this story?
BF: My inspiration came from my son and nephew, who love dogs.
CM: How long did it take you to bring this book from the first draft to the final published product?
BF: This book is self-published so it took me about six months.
CM: Were there any special obstacles or challenges you faced during the publishing process?
BF: No, I had no problems at all; I guess I was blessed in that area.
CM: Tell us about your main character(s).
BF: My main characters are Hakim and Terrance. They both love dogs very much. They are real children who I based my story on. If children can identify with characters, it helps them interpret the events around them and help them solve their own problems like Hakim and Terrance learned as they searched for Shadow.

BF: Parents, the book is comprehensive, practical, and easy to read and understand. Also on target in helping children survive a most difficult time in their life while learning to deal with life on their own.
