Let Someone In

By: Emily V (View Profile)

That’s when my life changed Tabatha and I are now Best Friends she goes to counseling every Monday to help with childhood tragedies but other than that school is great for her and me, everyone has learned to accept her and she's actually happy to be at school now. Every day I say I’m sorry her for everything I put her through. I ask God for his forgiveness as well she tells me to stop because I’m her best friend and that’s in the past. I’m still helping her overcome a lot of things she has been through. However she has overcome so much already.

I can say as a friend she is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I’m a better person now. I’ve grown and learned so much since we've been friends. I see people get picked on now and the only thing I can do is befriend them. Tabatha opened up to me the person she feared most but I listened and I helped.

No one can be helped if they don’t open up and let someone in. You have to let someone in. Let someone help you and at least try to understand you. What do you have to lose? I’ve also learned to let people in and trust them I also feel a lot better, turn to someone you can trust and if you just feel like you have absolutely no one, than you can even talk to me.

Even if you know someone that might need a friend or someone to talk to, befriend them let them know your there if they need someone. You only gain dignity, not lose it. My name is Emily and this was my story of letting someone in.

Emily-it takes a lot for someone to even share this side of themselves with so many people. Its easy to be cruel, and make fun of people. It takes a much stronger, self-aware person to do the right thing. Good for you!

So funny because my cousin was just like you,she even made me feel small at times. She wasn't as mature at you at the time.I am glad this happened to you because like you said there are so many things we don't know about a person and we can't even imagine. Its nice that you have grown to appreciate these things in life.

Emily- Your story feels extremely close to home for me. I think it's safe to say that at some point in everyone's life, peer pressure has played a role. As a junior in college, I know that I am still aware of the judging eyes of those that surround us, and I sometimes still fall victim to it. We are all fallible, and should not judge ourselves too harshly for that fact. You have clearly overcome a very strong obstacle in your life, this being the power of pressure, and you have, in addition, spoken out against it. You have not only improved your life, and the life of your best friend, but you have spread awareness to others, and for that you should feel very proud. Thank you for sharing, Jordan
