Baby Ballerinas

Dana will always play an integral role in my life, no matter where in the world we both end up. Of course I would love living in the same city and even same apartment as her one day, but having dealt with distance already, I know we can conquer it. All it means is that I have a couple of great vacations planned a year.

As I capture this moment in a frame and place it in the center of my desk, I dial the number I’ve had memorized for years. If I close my eyes hard enough, it isn’t difficult to imagine us sitting across from each other at our favorite café instead of hundreds of miles away from each other. I believe this is one of the main reasons why Dana and I have remained so close for so long. No matter how far apart we drift, talking to each other immediately brings us both to home base. In her I see the little three year old girl with the oversized bow in her hair, the equestrian master who was out of town every other weekend at horseshows, and now the intelligent woman preparing to embark on her furthered studies at Colorado College in the fall. I am so proud to know her and call her my best friend.

I have never had a long distance friendship before.........I currently have met an interesting person on this website that lives in the same state as I (only opposite ends!!!)...........I often wondered how it would be possible.......or the practicallity of a relationship/friendship ever developing ( or continuing) with distance being a factor. So after reading this story plus the comment below it is possible........encouraging!

What abeautiful tribute to Dana and to your friendship. I was in a very similar situation during my years at college, and the distance (thousands of miles) only made my best friend and I stronger! By a twist of fate, when the "real world" hit (after our studies,) we wound up working only 15 miles apart....and moved into an apartment together. The fun times only got better.....but even had we not lived together, we still would have made our friendship work....and a friendship, no matter its longevity, DOES take work. Cheers!
