Kelly, Marie, and Anne are sisters. There is yet another sister, Martha, who is not yet ready to reunite with her youngest sister. When their mother died seven years earlier, Kelly was ostracized from the family. Three years before that happened Marie had a falling out with Kelly. For ten years, Marie and Kelly were sisters in name only. Yet, today was about healing wounds, building bridges, and starting all over again.
After walking through Kelly and Carter’s new lakefront home, the group headed outside and down to the dock. Dogs and all, everyone except Carter, got on the pontoon boat to take a ride on the lake. Carter was going to grill for their guests; after all it was a picnic.
It is evident that life on the lake agrees with Kelly. She seemed far more relaxed than Marie anticipated. She seems happy, content, and on the verge of happy tears because Marie came to make amends and end the ten-year drought between them.
It was a drought unlike neither of them had experienced before and it lasted for a decade. Yet, hard as it was, they both not only survived but also thrived because of the drought. Life events leave no one unchanged and this was pre-destined proof that the God answers prayers.
After ten years of intentional distance, very tall walls had grown between them. No one knew for sure how the surprised visitors would be received, or the affect their surprise would have on those being visited. Can the wall crumble just a bit to make some progress toward forgiveness and healing? One can hope, and most definitely pray for a miracle.
Kelly was on her own turf, in her safety zone, and certainly not expecting a surprise of this magnitude. Ostracized and estranged for ten years, she experienced a life altering change that removed doubts, fears, insecurities, and allows the free-spirited person inside soar to new heights. She once again feels acceptance and love.
Marie has felt God press on her heart for some time now, and she began to notice a genuine peace inside when thinking and praying about Kelly. Marie thought it would be a nice gesture to bring a small gift to give Kelly when they arrived. There was no rancor, anxiety, or doubts, Marie knew it was time. By the grace of God, she made it. Excitement was building the closer she got to Kelly’s address.
