My life is a mixture of ups and downs. I think that’s the best way to describe it. I can’t exactly say that I was happy all the time during my short twenty-three going on to twenty-four years (the distinction is very important), on this green earth. Being the second youngest out of five siblings in my family. I can’t exactly say that I was the “favorite” then again! Come to think of it neither were any of my other siblings. We were treated equally.
My parents! I like to think of them as saints but unfortunately and realistically of course they’re not. They’re two people that god chose to come together and form a family and raise five children who could be a handful sometimes (what child isn’t?????). We had our good and bad moments. I always had troubles on birthdays no matter whose it was. I had this fear that a cake made out in the shape of a doll/teddy bear/sheep or any other cake which resembled any animal or human being was not supposed to be cut or eaten. It usually spoilt our birthday parties and I wasn’t exactly famous for this. Then there was the issue about me standing on anything elevated that would resemble a bridge or anything higher and I had a fear of getting down. I remember when I was like three years old and I stood on one of my dads textbooks which was a thick one and crying because I could not come down. I outgrew this habit when I turned six. Although I must confess that I have my moments.
We recently celebrated my nieces’ first birthday. After eight years of marriage my brother finally had a child; a daughter! Her cake was this beautiful princess dressed in a silk low cut number consisting of layers of whipped cream, sultanas, and strawberries. Perfect combination guaranteed to increase your sugar level. I loved it (I think even more than the birthday girl!). But I could not bear to watch as she plunged the knife into the princesses bosom and cut a piece right out in the middle. It was the single most depressing moment of my life! (For the time being!)
