My Parent's Reconciliation Vacation (excerpt from Proverbial Woman), Part XIV

By: Grey Sparrow (View Profile)

My mother and father have always encouraged Amy and me to believe in ourselves and do what we feel is right in our hearts. Amy is book smart, but she could easily be distracted by the lure of adventurous people.

In fact, most of the boys she dated in junior high were either from impoverished areas or a few years older than her. Mom and Dad worried all the time. But they knew if they displayed any disapproval of her choices, she would continue to see that individual in spite of their actions.

I didn’t have time for all the nonsense in that chapter of my life. I’ve dated a few guys, but they all appear to be wrapped up in themselves or too clingy. I don’t need those kinds of distractions in my life. If and when the time comes, I hope to meet someone who will work hard at understanding the complexities of my idiosyncrasies.

I am a woman of change. And it is the changes in my life that shapes me into what I am, a being of evolution. And knowing that, I’m definitely not ready to become a fixture in someone else’s world.

“Would you like a refill?” he asked as he walked over toward the table where she sat.

“No, not right now. I want to take it slow for a while,” she answered as she watched him fill his glass.

“Its a beautiful night,” he remarked as he looked out beyond the balcony. “ Would you like to take a walk on the beach?”

“No.” she answered. “Actually I would prefer to take a long, hot bath…preferably with you. And then maybe we can sit out on the balcony and sip champagne and talk.”

“That sounds good. I’ll call downstairs and have them bring up a few more bottles while you get started running the water.” He answered, with a look of apprehension in his eyes.

“And could you put on some music, please?” she yelled over her shoulder as she moved into other room.

“I will,” he replied, as he began to dial downstairs.

“Hey…” she called out as she rushed back into the room, “Hey honey, I’ve got an idea. Why don’t we take some of these candles and put them in there with us? You know, make it more intimate.”

“Yeah. That sounds like a good idea,” he answered, as he began dialing.

“Okay. I’ll leave you alone…for now,” she shrugged her shoulders as she turned and moved about, gathering a few candles.

“Don’t forget the champagne!” she shouted as she made her way back into bedroom.

‘My God…women!’ he thought to himself as he listened for an answer on the other end.
After placing his order and putting down the receiver, he turned and walked out unto the Terrance as he took a moment to reflect on what was happening. Gazing out into the night sky, he momentarily raised his flute, as if to be hailing a toast.
