Do I sometimes yearn for the simplicity and wonder of our old holidays? Of course. Those are traditions I hope to recreate with my own family one day. But the new traditions are hard-won blessings born of love, patience, and pain, just like the holidays they celebrate, and I will be certain to give thanks for these new traditions at both of my Thanksgiving meals this year.
