It Felt Like a Lifetime

By: Maria Hawkins (View Profile)

Hi again, well as you recall I wrote an article about faith and what I would leave my children. I can honestly say that Jesus is definitely the best gift. Okay well my youngest son Justin who is eighteen went to live in Dallas with my eldest of five now thirty-five and needless to say it was not working. My twenty-eight year old daughter moved to Houston in September with her four children and her husband so Justin decided to try that route too. Again he hit another no go. Justin is a young man who wants to be on his own but without the responsibilities. I don’t know where he got the idea that anything like that could really work in life but he went after it full force. Wrong ideas. Yes, wrong crowd DEFINITLEY. Justin decided to move back to Dallas on his own despite my plea to please consider coming home. He is six foot five but he is still my part of my heart and height does not mean you are grown.

Okay so the entire time he was staying with several other people and he insisted he was fine. I wanted so much to believe that but God kept urging me to continue praying more and more. I would often find myself unable to sleep and was so tired the next day because I work from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. but I could not put that fear that something was wrong aside. My eldest son who we will call Mike called me on Tuesday February 3rd and with worry in his tone informed me he was looking for Justin on the streets because Justin’s girlfriend called to let him know that Justin has been jumped. I asked Mike if his brother was okay and he said I cannot find him mom. My heart ached and tears were flooding my eyes all I could do was pray!!!!!! I waited for what seemed like a lifetime. The next phone call I received from his girlfriend who directed us to the house where Justin ended up. At the time I did not know the woman who took him in was an Angel but I was able to speak with him when I called the number and I could feel the fear through the phone. I immediately demanded he come home to Virginia at that time and he gave me no more arguments. All he said was mom “please help me get home.” I had been saving my money to pay a bill I wanted to finally finish with and I took that money and tried to use my debit card but it would not go thru.
