By now it was 11 p.m. and Mike was upset yelling and very upset that he was even related to Justin because of his what he called stupid choices and what if my family is involved and so on it went. He dropped my son his youngest brother off at the bus station with nothing but the clothes he had on and I asked him if he would lend Justin $20 for the bus trip for food. Justin in a rush forgot the money in Mike’s truck and tried to catch him but Mike said He could not turn back because of traffic. I remember thinking I Love You God and I am so grateful that you did not give up on me and just drop me off without a chance.
I left work the next morning and Western Unioned the money to my son. He was still scared and very sorry for making such poor choices for friends. I assured him we would talk when he got home. He called me later that afternoon and said he felt unsafe at the bus stop and rode the train to the airport where he was able to catch a flight that helps runaways from eighteen years of age and under. He arrived the next morning. I remembered the story of the prodigal son in the old testament. I felt so much joy and peace that I could not stop thanking my God. I did not get the entire story until Justin said mom I want you to know that God was the reason I am still alive. That my friends is a mom’s worst nightmare. A couple of days before this happened I woke up and prayed harder than ever for my son. The fact that he is alive is proof that my prayers were not only heard but answered.
Someone told me when Justin was five that he would lead a lot of people to Jesus and sitting back thinking he has been attacked by much adversity but he is home and not just home but ready to do whatever Jesus asks of him. Justin said he was in the backroom of the apartment when he felt very uneasy and he walked out to the front where two of his friends stood, they let him walk outside and there stood eight more. He said he remembers asking if they were going to jump him and they began to hit him.
