An Unforgettable Family Reunion

“How did you make it day after day? Didn’t you get tired and need to rest?”

“Millie, I do believe to this day, if it had not been for the protection of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I would have never made it back home to be with my family and my friends. My prayers to Him were on a daily basis and it provided me the strength and endurance to stand strong and to push forward. You know Millie, serving Uncle Sam is similar to serving God, a person has to stand firm and strong in their belief’s to support both of them.”

“Grandpa, did Jesus fight beside you in the war?”

“Yes, you might say he did, His Holy Spirit was present when fears overwhelmed me and when I called upon Him to help me finish my fight for my country. He gave me a peace I cannot describe to anyone...not even today.”

“Grandpa, did Jesus get hurt during the war?”

“Yes, I suppose He did Millie, but not from fighting. I’m sure He suffered as He knew other were dying and suffering from wounds.”

“Millie, do you remember the Bible stories you were taught at home and in church about how Jesus suffered as He struggled to drag His cross up Calvary’s Hill? They beat and spat upon Him; and crowned Him with thorns but, He never flinched or uttered any angry words to His enemies. They crucified Him and watched as He suffered a tortuous death dying for our sins and to offer us a chance to accept Him as our Lord and Savior. Jesus rose on the third day from His death, providing us the opportunity for an eternal life with Him in Heaven. This was His Holy Father’s (God’s) decision for Him to die like this for all of us.”

“Well then Grandpa, what you are saying is, we must serve our country and Jesus all at the same time...is this right?”

“Yes, Millie, Jesus died for our sins so we could live an eternal life with Him in Heaven and our military men and women fight for our country’s freedom and to protect us from harm.”
