Amazing

By: Laurel Jubilee (Little_personView Profile)

I remember well the stories my grandmother told about her and her identical twin sister. My grandmother moved to America with her husband to escape the turmoil in Europe. She was one of a family of fourteen children. She would speak with her sister weekly, who stayed in Germany. She would say, “Oh, I know my Kata is not feeling well.” She would call and, yes, Kata was ill. Wow, how amazing to be so close to someone. My grandmother lived long enough to hold her identical twin great-granddaughters, my second and third daughters. What a beautiful memory that is—how touching and amazing to see her face light up when she first met them.

My girls are now thirty. They are mirror image twins, and very different in everything but looks. It was amazing to see them lying in their crib, side by side. We needed identifying bracelets to tell them apart. This was a very joyous and difficult time. There wasn’t the information there is now. I truly wish I had all the wonderful advice and support that is so available today. My mother and dad were an unbelievable help. I think my husband was in shock still.

Still more amazing is now the oldest of the twins is expecting identical twin girls. She is the same age I was when they were born. She is having mo-mo twins. One sack, no dividing membrane, and a high-risk pregnancy because of the possibility of cord entanglement. She is now twenty-nine weeks and spending her time in the hospital under constant monitoring. She was checked in at twenty-five weeks. Her doctor is going to bring our girls into the world between thirty-two and thirty-four weeks. I am so excited, it’s hard to contain myself. I have pictures of them in the womb (amazing), I can hear their little hearts steadily beating, and I can see as their little hands and feet press against my daughter’s very large belly. I have four other granddaughters and, with each pregnancy and birth, I was overwhelmed and in awe. Now my daughter will be able to see my face light up as I first meet my new twin granddaughters—amazing.

Thank you for letting me share; I was bursting inside to tell this little part of my life.

I think all women are amazing.
