Let me tell you about a very special angel God sent me one day. Her name is Dixie. My wife and I used to live up in the country and one day I sent her over to the little plaza because they had videos for us to rent, and I had asked her to get some animal ones. But little did I know she would come home with the real thing.
She was at this plaza where there was a feed store. When my wife went to leave, this little puppy would not get out from under her tire so she had to go get the puppy and find the owner. When she went to the owners, the man had told her that he was having the whole group put to sleep because he has no home for them so he told her to take it.
And at the time we where just living in a travel trailer and we didn’t know what to do with a new puppy but we could not just leave her there to die. So we moved her in with us, took her to the vet, she was real sick, close to death at times, but our love for animals got her through it. But you see this cute little puppy grew up to be a 65 pound baby. But she was so smart and she grew to only know how to be like a person. You could ask her to bring things out of another room and she would go get it. If she was hungry she would go open a cabinet and get her food to you to feed her. She never went in the trash, she never liked anything that was dirty. She was such a very special dog. You had to know her to know what I mean. It could take a lifetime for me to tell you all.
We lost her last October, at age 18. We got her at 3 weeks old and there was nothing wrong with her when she died, it was just old age. She never went to the vet for anything but for her yearly check-ups. She even had good eye sight, good hearing and all her teeth. She passed away on the same day that my wife’s mother passed away and 4 days before that, my father passed away. The kids are all grown up now so we just have an empty house but with such sweet thoughts of the people we got to know in our lives. So God bless all the past loved ones in our lives, for one day we will be home with them again. Cowboy.
