The date that made my heart pound and my knees weak was when I first met my husband, Clark. Two dear friends, Loran and Helen, made the introductions. To break the ice, Loran, Helen, and I met Clark at the restaurant. I was concerned about the awkwardness of meeting someone for the first time, so Loran and Helen offered to accompany me to the restaurant and we could have a double date. Helen made all the arrangements and confirmed the details with Clark. He was all for the introductions and had no problem with a double date. As soon as Clark walked in the room, I saw his smile and his blue eyes and I was smitten. He was warm, charming, and a wonderful conversationalist. It was an incredible evening. After dinner was over and Clark and I shared a decadent dessert, we walked to the the restaurant parking lot, stood face to face holding hands and talking. I soon realized Loran and Helen were sitting in my car and I was their ride home, so I had to say my goodbyes. Clark and I exchanged phone numbers, did a polite kiss and as I started to walk away, he spun me around in a dance like move which I still affectionately refer to as “The Spin.”
The following day everyone at work was curious at how the date went and I relayed the series of events. When I got to the dance spin move, one of my male co-workers rolled his eyes, but said he had not ever seen that spark in my eyes and he could tell I had a good time. He said this guy sounded like “the one” and I deserved someone special.
As luck would have it, Clark and I ran into one another at the post office the following day and we decided to meet for dinner later in the evening. We joke about that being our first un-chaperoned date. We had a romantic evening in a restaurant forty-five minutes out of town. We kissed and held hands throughout the evening. After our second dinner date, we were together almost every night of the week and every weekend. Clark, a confirmed bachelor, rethought the whole bachelor concept and we were married two years later.
