Dating Disaster

Over my years of dating, I can think back on a handful of bad dates, but this one takes the cake. My boyfriend at the time (who I’ll call “B”) and I went on a lunch date. He was the manager of a corporate store of a major cell phone company, so consequently, he had to keep his phone on. His assistant manager called him with a problem she couldn’t solve, thinking he could get her through it over the phone.

At the time she called, we were pulling up to the restaurant. He told me it would only take a couple more minutes, so I should go in and get us a table. When he came in the restaurant and sat down with me, he was still on the phone. After a few minutes, the waitress came to take our orders, but he didn’t want to put his phone down long enough to order. He asked me to order for him, and that he’d eat when the food got to the table.

Well, as you can probably guess, when the food got there, he didn’t put down the phone. (Now, the phone call from the assistant manager was not urgent. She was giving “B” the latest bit of office gossip.) Using a cell phone in the middle of a restaurant in a non-emergency situation is bad manners. He could have excused himself from the table. At any rate, I was finished eating my food for ten minutes before he finally got off the stinkin’ phone! By this time, I told him to get it to go because I’d lost my patience of sitting there waiting for him to get off the phone, and that I was disappointed I went on a date with his phone, and not him. I then had a lengthy discussion with him about how rude his behavior was. It was the last straw for me because I kicked him to the curb when he brought me home!
