My husband and I have been married for twenty-four years. I met him after my mother picked him up at a junk yard! Yes, I said my mother picked him up at a junk yard. She got a flat tire on the way home from work, she was close so she drove on the flat and damaged her wheel rim. She called around and found a junk yard with a rim that fit. She asked the man if he could hold the rim till she could get a ride there. He offered to bring it over on his lunch break if it wasn’t too far. It turned out to be just a couple of miles, so he not only brought over a rim, but also a tire and he put it on for her. They became friends after that and I kept hearing about this real nice guy.
One afternoon mom woke me up (I worked the night shift and had one college class that day, so needless to say I was not to happy being woken up after about one and a half hours of sleep), because he was coming to lunch. I was pretty much half asleep when he arrived and really don’t know what was talked about, but I did notice he had the most beautiful green eyes I’d ever seen. Our paths crossed several times the next six months or so and we finally started dating. This was in 1980; in February of 1983 we got married. Twenty-seven plus years later I still think he has the most beautiful green eyes and I love him more as time goes by. He is my best friend, and I thank that tire for going flat.
