About my husbands affair with another woman. If the reader reads between the lines and nautical phrases they will find the other woman is merely a boat.
Tranquil Temptress
Surviving thirty years of marriage was a celebratory milestone. Hubby and I salvaged fond memories from our ups and downs of marital obligations without becoming a divorce statistic. Raising our boys from diapers to Dockers challenged our ability to balance the carriage on life’s roller coaster. Like most parents, we spent endless hours shuttling them to and from sports events, doctoring their bloody knees, and consoling them during pubescent breakups with their first loves. As a couple, we were so busy that a simple kiss on the cheek or an endearing pat on the fanny sufficed for a night of romance. When the boys ventured off to college, we began to explore the desires that initially sparked our relationship but were left smoldering on a back burner. As we reminisced, shared our dreams, and planned for the future, we became inseparable.
However, when Hubby turned fifty, mid-life melodrama stormed on the horizon. Like a teenager, he became distant as he tested my boundaries. One evening, after a jaunt on the town with the “Guys,” he stumbled through the door with an unfamiliar fragrance lingering from his clothes. It was not the fiery sweetness of a fine perfume bottled in the south of France, but an earthy scent that turned heads and raised eyebrows. After charting the many hours he spent away from home, I had the sinking feeling that he was having an affair.
My patience was ebbing fast. The thought of him spending time with another woman was unbearable. With my stomach in knots, I confronted my husband with my suspicions. He did not deny the accusations or attempt to excuse his unfaithfulness. Yet he had the audacity to beg me on bended knee, “Please, Honey, we can work things out. The least you can do is meet my muse. You have a lot in common. She’s entertaining, hospitable, loves the outdoors, and harbors your sensitivity. I know that we will get along just fine if you open your heart to my desires.”
