Any Other Thursday

House) came in. He was the one that had finally begun really testing my husband’s capabilities and brought him out of the drug-induced coma and off life support. So on the fourth morning as I was getting out of the shower, I got the call we’d all been praying for; "your husband is awake and he wants to see you! "

In the days to follow, I found out how close I was to implementing my personal survival plan. My husband had a Sudden Cardiac Arrest/Sudden Death Experience without preexisting or existing conditions and had a 5 percent chance of living. What they believe saved him was the quick response of the fire department and the immediate defibrillation. We were fortunate; he came home and is living a normal life. Although, looking back, I’m not sure what actually got me through the whole thing, aside from the obvious. But I know that I found strength in having a plan.

Wow, what an eye opener! We all know that anything can happen at anytime and we can lose the important people who contribute to our lives. So, with that in our head, we must do what we can so that we know, god forbid, but, without those important people, we will be alright, or at least have the knowledge to forge ahead on our way to being alright. We have to be strong woman to protect ourselves first and then go on and be strong for our kids.

I have chills... I'm single, so I already handle all the finances, but your story is an important one. I'm grateful your husband survived and has recovered. Kudos to you for using a difficult situation to illustrate a very important reality!

Even though I handle all of our family's finances, my husband is the bread-winner and I 'shudder' to think of not having him around. I depend on him for so much (as he also does on me). You never know what life has in store for you, and I pray that I don't have to deal with this type of loss, or of that of my children, anytime soon. My heart goes out to all women who have lost their spouses.

This is an amazing story. I never thought about what would happen if something like this happened to someone I love. I now realize the importance of plans and thinking about the "what ifs"
