Kuan Yin, Buddhist Goddess of Compassion: On Relationship, Desire, and the Creative Force

By: Hope Bradford CHT (View Profile)

“[People] want to taste all these experiences. And the ego makes it possible. Don’t curse the ego. So many scriptures curse the ego self. Instead, regard your life as about choices, experiences and desire and that you are already liberated. Don’t be afraid of desire. It is why you’re here: to taste, live.” From: The Living Word of Kuan Yin

Once, during a Kuan Yin session, trance channel Lena Lee’s discovered herself riding with Kuan Yin atop a huge, lumbering elephant. As this segment gradually unfolded, Kuan Yin soon revealed that the elephant symbolized one’s “driving force,” the spiritual engine propelling one along his or her path of liberation. This driving or, as it is sometimes referred to, creative force is not some unwieldy inner desire. Instead, as divine beings having free will, we are to positively and effectively direct this inherent and powerful force. Saying this process helps us “spiritualize matter”; it is, according to this goddess, one of the main reasons why we’ve come to earth:

“Kuan Yin,” begins Lena, “spoke of how one can work upon one’s dharma through personal relationship. She mentioned how events in a relationship can flow along easily. When they stop flowing, however, there can be a lot of stagnation. The pain I’ve been experiencing lately occurs when I’m unable to help my husband overcome his unhappiness. It is very difficult to live with someone who can’t be content. He’s not happy with his job nor is he happy when he’s at home. I wonder what my lesson is. What is my next step? You know how (in the I-Ching), it is said there are times to rest and times to push? I’ve been wondering what to do next in my marriage. Should I rest or push?”

Stating that she wanted the above question to set the focus for today, Lena requested (as many important issues were weighing upon her mind) a longer hypnosis countdown than usual. Upon being counted down from fifteen to zero to her sacred place, Lena immediately begins to laugh with delight:
