Freedom to Love

By: Rose Taylor (Little_personView Profile)

“The liberation of gays,” was the phrase that woke me up from my indifferent slumber. All this time I’ve had homosexual friends and I never really thought too much about the subject and how un-accepting people can be. I love my friends unconditionally, but thinking back maybe this whole time I’ve been almost against the concept of same-sex relationships. But that one phrase just gave the whole situation some meaning.

America is the land of the free, right? And it’s supposed to be a nation under God, right? Well, the way I see it people in this country are free do a lot things that aren’t exactly moral or right under the eyes of God or anyone else. Everyone has skeletons in their closets. So why are there so many hate crimes against gay people? Are we reverting back to the days of racism? Granted, a lot of people out there believe it’s a choice whether or not to be gay, but it’s the principal of prejudice. How can someone judge such a large group of people on a single preference? Shouldn’t everyone have the right to choose?

I think everyone has that right. There are too many things wrong with this world to add to the hate. Go ahead and dislike homosexuality if you can’t bear the thought of men with men, and women with women. It makes no sense to me why this is such a big issue. Picket signs and profanities aren’t going to turn a true homosexual away from their lovers. Homosexuality has been around for so many years behind closed doors, isn’t it time to finally let them be free? I believe it is.

They’re not hurting us. What’s the worst that can come of us if there are a few homosexual people out there, really? I’m not saying that I agree with it, but I do agree with the fact that they are humans, and if they’re American, then they have every right to be what they want. Can anyone give me one good reason to make these people suffer for being who they are? I’m sick of hearing things like “It’s just wrong” or “It’s gross” or “It’s against God” or whatever the excuses may be. None of these excuses for hate can surpass anything going on in this day and age. Get real. Let them be free.
