Give It a Chance

I’ve often wondered how some women could be so stupid as to have a relationship with a man in prison. Some of these women profess their love for some of the men who don’t have a chance in hell of getting out. Which leads me to my story.

I have had quite a few failed relationships in my past, and I am not doing so great right in my life right now. Well, I have a friend whose husband is currently in prison. He is the greatest guy I have ever met. He had a bunkie (cell mate) who had been his friend since elementary school. He claimed to need a good girl with no baggage or drama looking for a good man. Well I decided to give this guy a chance after a few months of ignoring his calls, letters, and endless messages. Now I know why I never got involved with anyone in the penal system. It’s not that there is anything wrong with people in prison, it’s just that not all of them can or should be trusted.

I trusted my new found friend, and even went to the extremes of going to visit him in prison. Needless to say the trips were emotionally and physically draining. But I felt it was worth it, seeing how he would be home soon and we are working on a real relationship. During this eighteen-month-long friendship, I found out a lot about the types of women he usually slept around with. In no way were these loose women any comparison to me (so I thought) whatsoever. Neither have done anything in the way of making sure he has money on his books, making sure the telephone stays on so that he can call and run up the bill. I’ve stayed up many nights writing letters so that he could get mail. I was there for him.

I realized something was amiss in my relationship when I would ask him how he was getting home on his release date. He kept saying that he didn’t know how he was getting home. But I now know that this was a ploy to keep me in his good graces until he didn’t need me anymore. Well he got out and miraculously arrived home to his mother’s house. It has now been three Hell filled days since his arrival and I have not talked nor seen him. The only thing I can say is never again!
