As I write in the early morning hours, all is quiet and peaceful. All is quiet and peaceful. What a wonderful phrase. Today is the first day of my freedom. Yesterday, I was still a part of a pair, a duo, a couple. Today, I am me, a mother, a writer, a businesswoman, a friend, a sister, a daughter, but I am not part of a pair.
The price for this freedom? Well, it cost me fifteen years of my life, countless “life lessons” on the word no. Being told what I can and cannot do. Having my partner tell stories about me; damming stories in front of my precious child. Doing without so he could have what he wanted. Enduring countless hours of talks and inquisitions on why I did or did not do something the “right” way. Being called terrible names and at some point believing they were true.
The price for this freedom? Worth everything to have all this quiet and peace. Actual physical quiet and peace and spiritual, emotional and true quiet and peace. Knowing my son will see me as a strong and wonderful person, mother, and woman. Having my “old self” back. The me that likes to laugh so hard it makes me cry. The me who loves to give cards and small gifts for no reason except I want to. The me who can invite my friends over and not be embarrassed.
The price for this freedom? There is no true price I can put on my freedom, but it certainly feels so amazing, that I may burst out of my skin and shine more brightly than the brightest star!
Freedom is never free, but it is worth any “thing” you may own, any amount of money you may have, any price for your dignity, sanity, health, and oh, the peace and quiet!
