During the five-week series of Hypnobabies classes, a woman will learn the deepest relaxation possible and receive post-hypnotic suggestions for an easy comfortable birthing. All it takes is a single half hour practice of relaxing deeply and listening to hypnosis scripts read by her birth partner, or listening to a hypnosis CD each day, along with several thirty-second practice sessions of entering self-hypnosis instantly. Through repetition, the mind is able to create mental anesthesia and a physically comfortable birthing without any potentially harmful side effects of medications.
Q: How will women know if hypnosis will work for them?
Carole: It’s a common misconception that hypnosis only works for some people. Hypnosis works for anyone who allows it to, provided that person is of at least average intelligence and can listen, relax, and follow suggestions. Also, it’s not commonly known that hypnosis is a natural state of mind that we all experience many times each day. You will know if hypnosis “works for you” by the fact that hypnosis has already occurred effortlessly for you each and every day of your life. Hypnosis has worked for you if you’ve ever watched TV or a movie, or read a good book, and experienced intense emotions as if you were there, or if you’ve ever been bored into a state of “daydreaming” while listening to someone lecture. You were in a state of hypnosis if you’ve ever driven down the highway, on what some of us call “autopilot,” and then all of a sudden realized you can’t consciously remember the last few miles you’ve driven. You know hypnosis will work for you if you can listen, relax, enjoy, and imagine what is being suggested to you. If you want it to, your subconscious mind takes care of the rest naturally.
Q: How can we find out more about hypnosis for childbirth?
Carole: Do an online search for childbirth hypnosis. There is information about “eyes open” childbirth hypnosis on the website, Hypnobabies.com or my own: Hypnosis4birth.com. I am always happy to share about hypnosis for childbirth. .
