In Need of a Potty School?

By: Laura Roe Stevens (View Profile)

I just read that the Children’s Hospital of Boston operates a “Toilet Training School.” Over a six week period a pediatrician, who uses music and books, helps kids overcome their fears of using the toilet—while a psychologist works with parents. I wish there was a school like this when my son was three and still refusing to go poop in the potty! Experts say thousands struggle with toilet training—so why don’t more pediatric hospitals offer this service?

I am no expert only a mom of 2 with 1 on the way. But I think potty training is highly over rated. Parents want to judge each other or their kids by certian mile stones. It starts with rolling over and continues through potty training. Each child is different and learns at it's own pace. I found with potty training that the more you push the more they refuse. They can control you and it. So ignore it and all the people making you feel bad. Lets face it they will not go off to college with a diaper and no one will remember the date and age when he finally trained HIMSELF. Don't sweat the small stuff! Yes, small you will laugh about this in a couple years. Schools are just another way to try to control mother nature and for the doctors to take charge of our parenting not to mention make more money.
