The Value of Money

By: Mrs. Dee (View Profile)

I wonder how mom would have responded to me, had I asked her why she never did anything about saving money or investing it. Poor mom, she probably didn’t know any better.

Since then, I have been fascinated with the value of money. Saving and investing that is. I have not bought a house nor do I intend to for now as I am not ready. Neither am I waiting for a well-to-do rich and wealthy prince charming to come along and sweep me off my feet. I am an independent woman, content with me, myself and I, just like mom was but with a flair for making changes and a difference in my life.

I would love to one-day own real property; something small would be nice to start with. I drive a used car and don’t make any payments on it but it’s cute enough to drive customers around for home viewings. My clothes are just right, and being the daughter of a jeweler, I have always had simple, yet feminine pieces, and they must be diamonds! Thanks Dad. And speaking of Dad, he’s in his own little world so I don’t really bother him for anything but he comes around telling me stories about the jewelry business. I say, “that’s great Dad.” Then he shows me the new piece of jewelry that he made for me, Awwww. Dad’s just Dad. Never told me anything about saving money or investing either.

I am taking classes on financing and investments and hope to teach my children and customers on ways to invest their money and invest for the future and retirement. I love what I am learning and never knew that investing just twenty-five dollars a month on annuities, REITs, investments and other investments alike can make you rich if you start young. My son tells me he already bought an annuity through his job and how he is seeing his money grow already. I better start go catch up!

I guess I am living in the caveman ages. I don’t need to live a glamorous life. To me, that is a life full of vanity and emptiness unless you know the true meaning of life and are enjoying it to the fullest and know where your path in life is taking you.
