Honoring the Dads in Our Lives

By: Laura Roe Stevens (View Profile)

Father’s Day is approaching—the day we celebrate the dads in our lives. Sometimes these holidays can seem a bit too commercial. What are you planning to honor your father? Are you helping your children do something special for their dad? Chime in! Just click on JOIN THE CHIT CHAT below to tell us your ideas.

I think the most meaningful gifts are those that you put some of yourself into. I try to get my kids to think about what they appreciate about their dad and to tell him, and now that they are older, to write it to him in a card or letter.
I wrote an article about him and will probably buy him a book. He loves to read and it's the most practical gift for him. More important, we'll just spend time together, which means a lot to the both of us.
There's going to be a brunch at our neighborhood pool, which my husband said he'd like to go to. We have two young children so we will eat, swim and spend time as a family.

Both my father and stepfather are gone now, so usually I set aside some quiet time to remember each of them. A walk in the park away from all the noise helps bring back some good memories.
