Reber Mozart Kugel Candies

By: Puglyfeet (View Profile)

I was at Cafe Murano on Steiner Street in San Francisco, paying for a bowl of their ultimate oatmeal, when I spotted these morsels of finely packaged candy on the counter. Indeed, I recognize the fact that I’m a sucker for this type of impulse item. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a fan of pimpin’ packaging. Priced at about fifty cents apiece, how could I resist three pieces of Reber Mozart Kugel. I didn’t have a clue as to how it would taste and quite frankly, I only wished to photograph the wrapper and I didn’t care if it tasted horrible.

Well, let me tell you this ... Biting into Mozart makes my mouth happy and sad all at the same time. Happy because it has the most delightful taste, and sad because it’s one less bite-sized morsel to consume. Though I love food, I don’t know how to speak of it in those flowery cooking terms, so I will be simple and candid: it was hella good. It was so good that I’m bent on going back for more!

GermanDeli.com has this to say about my new vice:

Imported from Germany! This beautiful gift box includes three of the finest Reber-Specialties. The Truffle-Kugel—finest truffle surrounded by marzipan and double dipped in milk chocolate. The genuine Reber Mozart Kugel—exquisitely filled with pistachio-marzipan, made from fresh green pistachios and hazelnut-nougat, double dipped first in milk chocolate and then in dark chocolate.

Here’s the official ingredients list:

Ingredients: sugar, almonds, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, milk, hazelnuts, invertase, egg liqueur, alcohol (0.6 percent), pistachios, soy lecithin, cocoa

There you go. It has truffles. I don’t know much about truffles except that they’re expensive. I saw Catherine Zeta Jones in No Reservations and there I learned that truffles are worth more than their weight in gold, especially when they’re made of chocolate.

They’re pretty expensive on Amazon, but if you’re crazy, you can get them here: Reber Mozart Kugel Yum Yums.
