Sacred Gardening for Conjuration

By: Stephanie Rose Bird (View Profile)

When considering sacred gardening, the act of planting seeds is a metaphysical and physical activity. Growth of herbs, flowers, trees and other plants render opportunity to cultivate many qualities within the self. As you set out to mark the gardening space as your own, consider ways of:

  • growing patience
  • setting aside time for harvest plans and growth journaling
  • becoming acutely aware of local climate changes and conditions in your biome, learning the quirks of your region’s meaning of “season”
  • observe the night skies while contemplating your place within the universe;
  • get to know the moon’s cycles and how they relate to the act of planting and harvesting
  • learn to look to the future, striving to envision a sacred space from which you can conjure powerful dreams, visions, healing medicine and inspiration
  • sketching your garden’s growth without self-consciousness or judging (this is liberating)
  • embrace beauty in all its forms; beautify your home while contributing to the health and intrinsic wealth of your neighborhood by using indigenous planting techniques that lessen your ecological footprint
  • welcome the fruits of your labor and share them with human, animal, deity, spirits, the ancestors, and even beasts (if you know any)

A sacred garden is full of potential for conjuration of the most wholesome types. It is a metaphysical space for tilling, planning, discovering, sorting, envisioning, dreaming, and meditating. Sacred gardening provides an area to deepen spiritual resources. This is your space for learning more about yourself and those around you—great, small, and invisible—with the guidance of Mother Nature.

Wow man, I really dig this piece! Metaphysics and I are old friends. I've practiced oneness with the natural world my entire life. I never feared being alone in the stark wilderness.
It feels good to write.
