To Run or Not to Run

By: Bill Charles (View Profile)

I believe it’s worth a shot. I believe I can lose weight. I doubt that I’ll ever weigh 150 pounds again, but, right now, 170 would be great. So, I will establish a few goals. I will run four to five times per week. I will work myself up to three or four miles per run. Before long, I will notice a difference in my waist and in my weight. I will also notice a difference in my self-esteem.

I will tackle the hills and the valleys. I will run through the pain that will surely come. I will once again become Rocky Balboa, jogging, running, moving to the rhythm of that inimitable theme song. My wife will become the sweet and nurturing Adrienne and the steep hills will serve as my nemesis, Apollo Creed. Victory will be mine and it will be sweet!

Yes, running will have to be my calorie burning activity. If I dedicate myself, the needle on the scale will slowly move to the left and the trousers will eventually fit more comfortably. If not, I will have to get to work immediately on inventing my super-duper calorie burning wrist device. Come to think of it, that might be easier than running.
