Blogger Bloat: Ten Ways to Avoid It

For bloggers in the Northern Hemisphere, winter is around the corner, and blogger bloat is a real risk.

What is blogger bloat? It’s tendency of bloggers and bloghers to gain weight by sitting for long hours in front of computers, snacking on treats! Blogger bloat is a greater risk in the winter, when bloggers tend to choose starchy and comfort snacks.

I’m not a fattist. My boyfriend is well-padded, and I love him every piece of him. However, excessive weight has many more negatives than positives: it dulls your thinking and your blogging, drains your energy, and has serious health complications. So …

Ten Ways to Avoid Blogger Bloat:

1. Cut out big meals: this doesn’t mean starvation. Blogging takes energy, so you must eat. Rather, eat many, many small meals. This will eliminate your need to snack on unhealthy options.

2. Eat a blogger’s breakfast: something light, to get your metabolism going, like apple smeared in peanut butter, or egg on a single slice of toast, or yogurt with roast fruit, etc.

3. Don’t deny yourself pleasure: it will make you crave more. Find a healthy compromises. (Instead of chips, eat popcorn; instead of Coke, sip on some earl grey tea with a dash of honey and lemon; etc.)

4. Have pre-prepared and healthy blogging snacks: keep them in your fridge. Buy tons of hummus, chop up some carrots and celery sticks (the combination of crunchy vegetable and smooth, salty hummus is addictive for bloggers).

5. Be active: when you take a break from your blog, try to get up and do something active—walk Snuffy the dog; hang out that laundry. If you’re the right age and you have a partner, consider a rediscovering your love life.
