To add insult to injury, a sugar binge can lead to a day-after bout of sugar-blues that can make it even harder to give up the sweets.

So what’s a girl to do?

First, make sure you don’t allow yourself to become too hungry, thirsty, or tired. These are the most aggressive triggers for a sugar binge.

Next, make sure you get some good quality carbohydrates from whole grains and sweet root vegetables. These will help you satisfy the sweet your desire for sweets in a more substantial and nourishing way, and your need for a sugary treats will decrease.

Finally, include beneficial fats in your diet to feel full and satisfied. Nuts, avocado, and fatty fish are the best choices. Putting a little olive oil on your food is a good solution as well.

For snacks, think apples and nuts. In a total sugar-craving pinch go for some dried fruit, and you should feel better in no time.
