Slow Down and Chew Your Food

By: Sarah Delaney (View Profile)

I say, “No!” Stand up and praise your food. Praise the body you have that makes you capable and able to accomplish all you do and reward it by letting your taste buds experience all the meal has to offer. Take your time, enjoy it, chew your food well and in turn you will eat less, and make better choices.

Bon appétit.

It's not as though the sushi is going to get cold and be inedible if you don't eat them quickly. A little speed is sometimes needed with hot food that cools quickly.

Sounds like you're "ripe" for the slow food movement! See FoodShed (www.foodshed.blogspot.com) for lots of info about connecting with your local foodshed and enjoying food more.

But, you give inspiration to stop my gluttonous ways. Thank you.

I must say that I'm similar to that Brogan you watched in horror. I, too, gorge myself uncontrollably. As I'm trying to fit six sushi rolls in my mouth at once, I sometimes ask myself "Why?" I'm not in competition. I'm not a frail and starving third-world nubile boy. I'm a large, milking drinking Broganheimer. So why do I always finish eating first? Why must I clean my plate if food is placed on it? And why do I eat until I feel sick and gasy?

You're so right. We're all so busy it seems like none of us have the time to actually enjoy what we're eating. I know i'm the worst culprit - especially with your example of sushi (my favorite). Great story and a great reminder to slow down and appreciate what we're feeding our bodies.
